You must apply for permission before accepting a lodger. Further details on your rights can be found in your tenancy agreement. If formal permission is granted, you must inform local offices such as the Local Authority council tax and any related benefits that you may be in receipt of. You will also be responsible for the lodger’s conduct as a member of your household and must sign a consent agreement.
Unfortunately not, subletting is not allowed. Subletting is a breach of your tenancy agreement and If you are not using your home as your sole and principle home, legal action will be taken to recover your property. This may also impact future applications for housing.
Not all L&G homes are eligible under the below schemes and there is additional customer eligibility:
Right to Acquire – this is a potential route but is restricted to homes build after 1997 and the way in which the property was originally funded. More detail can be found here.
Right to Shared Ownership – The Right to Shared Ownership scheme allows some tenants in England to buy a share of their rented home on shared ownership terms. To find out if your home is eligible, please contact your Management Provider. More details on the scheme can be found here.

If you are a tenant of an L&G home and you would like to add someone or remove someone from your tenancy agreement, please contact your Management Provider to discuss.
Households can change during a tenancy. This could be a change of name or a new addition to your home. It is important that you notify your Management Provider of any change so that we can keep your details up to date and ensure that any advice can be given, for example if your home is overcrowded.
You must give formal notice in line with your tenancy agreement, and this must be submitted to your Management Provider who will confirm the requirements. It is generally one month’s notice, however this will be detailed in your tenancy agreement.
You will be required to return your keys at the end of the tenancy and leave your home clear of all belongings.
