Neighbourhood in Bloom: helping our communities grow
4 August 2026
This summer, we’re inviting customers to take part in Neighbourhood in Bloom, our gardening challenge in association with the National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge 2026.
You don’t need a big garden to join in. A balcony, window box, shared space, patio, doorstep or even one pot can become something special.
Ready, steady, grow
Neighbourhood in Bloom is open from 13 July to 31 August 2026. It is open to L&G residents aged 18 and over.
To enter, choose one of the four challenge categories and share what you have created. Entries will be judged on your story, your ideas and what you have achieved. You don’t need to be a gardening expert!
The categories:
- One Pot Power: create something brilliant using just one pot.
- Wild About Wildlife: make a pollinator-friendly space for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.
- Urban Farming: grow herbs, fruit or vegetables.
- Sustainable Solutions: reuse materials, save water or choose plants that need less water.
Customers who enter in the UK can also claim a free National Trust day pass, while passes last. Two winners will each receive a National Trust prize bundle worth £300 and an invitation to attend the national winners’ event in Manchester.
Why we’re doing this
At L&G, we believe a home is more than four walls. It is also about the people, places and the support around you. Good homes help people feel safe and good communities help people feel connected.
A small green space can lift your mood, help you relax and give wildlife a boost. It can also be a simple way to start a chat with a neighbour and feel proud of where you live.
Small spaces can make a big difference
You can keep it simple. Try herbs on a windowsill, bee-friendly flowers in a pot, or a few vegetables in a container. You could use an old bucket, tub or basket, as long as it has drainage holes.
You can also think about small, greener choices. Reuse cooled cooking water. Pick peat-free compost. Choose plants that suit your space. Most of all, make it yours.
Supporting customers beyond the home
Neighbourhood in Bloom is one part of our wider work to support customers and build great communities.
Through Neighbourhood by L&G, customers can access free health, wellbeing and practical support in one place. This includes help with physical and mental wellbeing, family life, money guidance and legal support.
We also provide extra help when customers need it most. Our Customer Support Fund helps customers facing short-term money worries. Harbour gives early support to customers who may need more help to stay secure in their home.
We listen too. Our customer engagement work and Customer Voice Panel help customers share views, shape services and tell us what needs to improve.
How to get involved
To take part, choose your category, create your green space and share photos or videos using #NeighbourhoodInBloom2026. Then complete the entry form on our website.
Please check your lease and get any permissions you may need before adding anything to your home or shared space. Make sure pots, planters and any items you use are safe and secure.
Whether you grow one herb, a pot of flowers or a wildlife-friendly balcony, we would love to see what you create. Together, we can help our neighbourhoods bloom.
