Best markets to buy last-minute Christmas gifts

As Christmas draws closer, it’s time to get any last-minute gifts done before the big day. But where are the best places to find those handy stocking fillers or even the big gifts you’ve not yet managed to find?

Here’s our handy guide to the best Christmas markets to find last-minute presents — from the unique and handmade trinkets to the all-out showstoppers!

Covent Garden Christmas Markets

Covent Garden always promises for a great day out, but at Christmas it becomes one of London’s most magical scenes. You have the choice of visiting three different markets where you can peruse all kinds of fabulous present ideas. From the handmade gifts in the independent stalls in Covent Garden’s covered market to venturing out to the big brands in the surrounding streets, this spot never fails for gift buying.

You can also see magical lights every day from 11 am until midnight, as well as making your Christmas wish under their iconic giant tree.

When you’re at Covent Garden, you could even swing by The Acer Apartments, just a handful of stops away on the central line. Discover quality, affordable homes in Zone 2 available through #SharedOwnership for £110,625 at a 25% share.

Kingston Christmas Market

Discover the ancient marketplace of Kingston-upon-Thames, where each Christmas it transforms into a picturesque haven of festive fun. In the picturesque town centre, you can explore a range of independent vendors selling handmade arts and crafts, as well as seasonal street food.

This European-style market features quaint wooden stalls, so why not venture to enjoy the Christmassy atmosphere and a mulled wine. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even enjoy curling to really get in the spirit of winter.

A short drive away, you’ll find our spacious, modern homes at The Moorings, featuring stunning open-plan living and balconies.

Open until 24th December.

Greenwich Christmas market

As one of the most picturesque areas in London, venture to this riverside spot for some fabulous last-minute shopping opportunities. While browsing the stalls at Greenwich Market’s spellbinding regency-style shops, be transported back in time as you browse the stalls selling a range of festive goodies. You’ll be able to choose between an amazing collection of crafts, stocking fillers and original artwork, all while bathing in the glow of its stunning light garlands.

A quick hop over the Thames, and you’ll find yourself at Hampton Tower on South Quay Plaza; your answer to affordable living in one of the most exciting hubs in East London.

Open late in the run up to Christmas but no end date yet.

Southbank Centre Christmas Market

Every Christmas, make sure to discover South Bank as it transforms into a dreamy festive wonderland, featuring exciting food stalls and some of London’s most recognisable twinkling lights. Walk down the rows of festive alpine-style wooden stalls selling treats for all who want to take in the riverside Christmas atmosphere. You’ll have the chance to pick up some great gifts from Foyles and the gallery shops while sipping on a cocktail, a mulled wine or a hot chocolate.

Open until 21st December.

Exmouth Market

One of the best kept secrets in central London, this pedestrianised street in Clerkenwell is lit up 365 days a year with strings of fairy lights running down the tree-lined street, bathing the independent shops, restaurants and bars in an inviting glow. So, you can only imagine how cosy it becomes in the lead up to the festive period.

This market, much like Greenwich and Covent Garden, is a permanent fixture but isn’t one to miss come wintertime. You can beat the busy crowds of other shopping hotspots in central London with this hidden gem.

Open year round.
