Once you’ve found your perfect Shared Ownership home, what comes next? Here’s everything you need to know about the move-in process.
You’ve found a Shared Ownership home that’s perfect for you, attended viewings to help picture your new life there, and have paid a deposit to secure the home as your own. Congratulations on reserving your new home!
So, what happens now? Moving into your new home is a straightforward process, but there are still a number of steps you need to take between now and actually living in your Shared Ownership property.

2Complete your mortgage application
Next, talk to your financial advisor, bank, or building society to complete your mortgage application. This is very simple, and they’ll just need information about you and the property you’re looking to move into.
3Receive the formal mortgage offer
Once your mortgage provider has issued their official valuation, you’ll receive your official Shared Ownership mortgage offer. This ensures that you can pay for your new home and puts you one step closer to moving in!
4Sign on the dotted line
This is the last big legal step. You’ll sign your contract and lease, and pay your deposit to your solicitor. You’re on the home stretch now.
5Exchange contracts and celebrate!
The last step before moving into your new home is to exchange contracts with the seller (in this case, L&G). Once this is done, the home is officially yours, and you’re ready to move in and start benefitting from Shared Ownership.
6Understand how everything works in the Home Demonstration
As part of your move-in process, we’ll run you through a Home Demonstration, where you’ll learn how to take care of your new home, what amenities are nearby, and any warranties that you need to know about.
7Grab your keys and move in
Congratulations, you’re officially on the property ladder! Once you’ve received your keys, you can move in and organise the admin of your new home, such as changing your address from any previous properties.
8Decorate your new home
Now it’s time to turn this house into a home. Choose furniture that suits your vibe, and paint and decorate to your heart’s content! It’s your space, and you can make it as personalised as you’d like.
